Day 1: Arrive Switzerland
We begin our tour of Europe with arrival in the city of Zurich. After the customary immigration clearance at the airport, you are warmly received by EBIXCASH Travel and Holidays representative and transferred comfortably to the hotel.
It has been a long flight from India. Take some time off to relax and rejuvenate in the comforts of your hotel room.
After an early dinner it's time to go to bed. (D)
Day 2: In Switzerland • Excursion to Jungfraujoch (Optional) • Visit Interlaken (Optional)
You have the day at leisure to simply laze around in the hotel or explore the beautiful neighborhood. If, however, you are one of those who believe in not wasting a single day while on a holiday, you can choose to be on top of the world, or literally on top of Europe, with the exciting optional trip to the winter wonderland, Jungfraujoch. What makes this eternal ice-land a quintessential Swiss travel destination is the fact that the enthralling experience begins from the moment you board the cogwheel train which ascends you to Europe's highest station, Jungfraujoch (at 3454m), with breathtaking views of bright ice and dark tunnels. Awaiting us on the other side of this exhilarating and cold journey to the top is a lineup of activities. But before that, let's just satisfy that hunger with a piping hot Indian lunch.
We move on to our ice excursion here on with a walk on the great Aletsch Glacier (the longest ice stream in the Alps), a visit to the glistening Ice Palace, a visit to the Sphinx Observation Terrace (the loftiest point of all) and more.
After the ice-cold adventure, we descend to something more soothing and far greener, the city of Interlaken, which, as the name suggests, is cradled cosily between the beautiful lakes of Brienz and Thun. Here is where you receive your first retail therapy while enjoying the marvels of Swiss shopping at a market that boasts as much of pocket-friendly souvenirs as that of high-end watches and jewellery.
We head to an Indian restaurant for dinner, before heading back to the hotel to relax and re-energize ourselves for the next day. (B, D)
Note: Breakfast will be served to all at the hotel while lunch will only be served to those who've opted for the Jungfraujoch tour.
After breakfast today, we checkout and proceed to Mt. Titlis.
Mount Titlis is 3,000 meters above sea level and as you exit the cable car at the top, you'll be treated to some of the most breathtaking views in Europe. Take a walk over the Cliff Walk, the highest suspension bridge in Europe or visit the stunning Glacier Cave.
We then wave goodbye to Switzerland and make our way into Germany driving through the Black Forest, which offers an unparalleled scenic view. Here we take a short break to witness a demonstration on the making of authentic cuckoo clocks in their original form, each piece carefully crafted for precision! A visit here is certainly a memorable experience. We then eat up a delicious lunch and continue our drive towards Heidelberg, situated in the Valley of the River Neckar, enjoying the view as we go.
After mountains, waterfalls, greenery and other natural beauties that the Swiss lands offered, Heidelberg comes as a welcome change with its rich cultural and architectural heritage that the city has retained since the 18th century. The most iconic among these architectural merits is the romantic Heidelberg castle. We then take some time to walk around, Altstadt, taking in the aesthetic beauty of this old section of the town that comes in the form of uniformly Baroque architecture.
Bringing the splendid day to a close, we stuff ourselves with a wholesome dinner and check into a hotel in the Rhineland Area. (B, L, D)
Day 5: Onto Belgium / Netherlands • Rhine River Cruise • Visit Cologne Cathedral • Visit Grand Place • Photo Stop at Atomium
With a stomach full of breakfast and a mind full of excitement, we proceed to St. Goar from where we embark on a cruise to Boppard cruising on Rhine River. The cruise allows us to witness the charm of medieval ages with a striking stamp of German history. Apart from the fortress and other architectural attractions, the cruise also offers some of the most splendid views of the Rhine valley.
Next we proceed to Cologne. The highlight of Cologne is the 13th century Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Mary, or simply, the Cologne Cathedral. From the invaluable art like the stained-glass paintings of the 15th century or the 10th century Gero-Kreuz crucifix to the shrine of the Three Kings to the utter magnanimity of its scale, everything gives this monument its enigmatic character. It's no wonder then that the Cathedral is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is also the single most visited landmark in Germany.
As the clock inches closer to dinner time, we proceed to Eindhoven/Antwerp to stuff ourselves with a wonderful meal at a restaurant and head back to our hotel. (B, L, D)
Day 7: Onto Paris • Visit Eiffel Tower (2nd Level) • Guided City Tour of Paris
Today we say farewell to Netherlands and set on course for France.
With its legendary charms and multi-layered character, Paris is hardly a place to need an introduction. And if you think the drive from Antwerp to Paris was a drag despite the scenic views it had in store, you'd be revived the instance you step into the City of Lights, thanks to its thrilling and rushing vibe. Naturally, we want to waste no time and head straight for the most cherished monument of the town… The Eiffel Tower (up to 2nd level). But first, let's grab our lunch!
After having had our fill of the iconic Tower we continue our guided city tour marveling at famous monuments like the Pyramid of the Louvre, Garnier's Opera (the largest opera theatre in the world), the Place de la Concorde (the site of the infamous guillotine), the Champs Élysées (one of the most fashionable streets in the world), the Napoleonic Arc de Triomphe and the Hotel des Invalides. And before you know, it's already time for dinner.
After a delicious meal, we head to our hotel, check in and hit the bed, hopefully instantly! (B, L, D)
Day 8: In Paris • Optional Disneyland, Paris • Optional 'Paris by Night with Lido Show'
Day free to explore the French capital on your own or you can take an optional day tour to Disneyland, Paris.
Divided into magical themed lands - Frontierland, Adventureland, Fantasyland, Discoveryland and the ever famous Main Street USA- the Disneyland Park has a lot to keep just about anyone entertained from meet-and-greet with our favorite fantasy characters (Pooh, Mickey, Minnie, et al) to fantasy setups like Pirates of the Caribbean or the Mad Hatter's Tea Cups to stomach-churning rides like the Space Mountain Mission 2 or Indiana Jones to subtler and more bearable rides such as 'It's A Small World' to that of parades and shows.
That said, if you are a cinema buff, you'd probably want to spend the day at the Walt Disney Studios, a place that brings the magic of cinema to life. You could enjoy a tram tour through the studio taking in views of life-like movie sets, props and even experience some dramatic effects. Then there are rides themed around movies that combine the stomach-churning ride movements with spectacular visual effects and, of course, the shows that are memorably entertaining.
At some point during this fun-filled day, we also make time to eat up our lunch. Dinner at Indian restaurant and Overnight at hotel.
OR after dinner we can continue to enjoy the optional Illumination Tour, a truly wonderful experience that makes it apparent why Paris is called the City of Lights, and the optional LidoShow performed by the popular Parisian Cabaret.
Note: Your park ticket gives you the option of entering either Disneyland Park or Walt Disney Studios (1 Day 1 Park).
All good things must come to an end and so did this tour! With our gifts and shopping bags neatly tucked into our luggage and our passports and tickets handy, we set out for the airport to head back home. (B)
